Agona Area Drainage Project

Organization:
Town of Manteo
Amount:
$250,000.00
Program Area:
Flood Mitigation Program
County of Applicant:
Dare
Year:
2023
Description:

The Town of Manteo identified Simon and Agona Streets as a high-priority area due to frequent flooding during significant rainfalls that submerges roadways and adjacent properties, often for prolonged periods. Golden LEAF flood mitigation grant funds will be used to implement solutions to reduce flow at the connection point for the drainage systems and correct other deficiencies. The Agona and Simon Streets system will be disconnected from the northern system by providing a new closed system connection to the open ditch along Sir Walter Raleigh Street. Flow from the two systems will rejoin into the existing downstream ditch that has greater capacity. Piping will be replaced and upsized to correct deficiencies and provide better flow. The changes will significantly reduce the depth and persistence of ponding throughout the Agona and Simon Streets system and improve conditions upstream. Households, businesses, and other public/private entities located in the immediate project area and downstream will benefit from completion of the project. Once completed, the town will continue to be responsible for the maintenance of the upgraded storm water system.
