This grant provided funds to the Town of Manteo to mitigate flooding in Simon and Agona Streets identified as a high-priority area due to frequent flooding during significant rainfalls that submerged roadways and adjacent properties, often for prolonged periods. Households, businesses, and other public/private entities located in the immediate project area and downstream benefitted from the project. The town will maintain the upgraded storm water system. Golden LEAF funds were used to implement solutions to reduce flow at the connection point for the drainage systems and correct other deficiencies. Piping was replaced and upsized to correct deficiencies and provide better flow. The changes significantly reduced the depth and persistence of ponding throughout the Agona and Simon Streets system and improved conditions upstream.
