This grant funded Surry Community College to construct and equip Phase I of the new Industrial Training Center campus in Yadkin County. The Center would offer advanced manufacturing training with degree, certificate and diploma programs. In Phase I, the Center focused on mechatronics and machining. All courses were customized to the needs of new, existing and/or expanding business and industry. The College had identified several businesses that had either recently announced expansions or that planned to expand in the near future and needed employees trained in the skills that would be taught at the Center. High school students were able to attend classes at the Center and earned tuition-free college course credits toward a job credential, certificate, or diploma while attending high school.
