What does it mean to you to serve as an intern at Golden LEAF?
Interning at Golden LEAF has given me opportunities that I otherwise would’ve never known existed. Golden LEAF has also introduced me to a newfound passion of nonprofit work. I think that taking this internship has opened doors for me to pursue a bigger purpose when continuing forwards to the rest of my future. On top of finding a new sense of purpose with my ideal work, I’ve also confirmed my love of communications work.
What have you learned that you didn’t think would be a part of External Affairs work?
There are various different things that I never thought were even skills or methods of doing things until I started interning at Golden LEAF. I never understood the underlying components of a communications job like logistics, data-tracking, etc. and with this internship opportunity I’ve come to learn how to deal with those aspects.
What are some of your favorite things you do as an intern at Golden LEAF?
I absolutely love the community of people that I get the opportunity to work with. I also enjoy that I get the chance to make social media posts for Golden LEAF that I get to see on my feed knowing what went into making it. One of my favorite opportunities I’ve gotten to experience was being able to write an article on a Golden LEAF Alumni after conducting an interview.
Describe Golden LEAF in three words.
Passionate. Endearing. Innovative.
What type of work do you want to do when you graduate?
I’m not entirely sure where I’ll be led after I graduate but I’m open to any and all possibilities. I’d love to find my way back into some sort of nonprofit work possibly later on because I do find the work rewarding. I do want to continue to work with social media management and possibly get to reach and work with a younger audience. Towards the end of my work, I’d hopefully like to reach a point where I could teach since I’ve always had that passion as well.
Would you like to share any words of advice for prospective interns?
Enjoy it. This opportunity doesn’t happen often and I can’t think of a better workplace full of supportive and understanding staff. Take the time to network because Golden LEAF reaches such a wide range of people that are good to know once you leave.
