The purpose of this grant is to provide funding to Wilkes EDC, in cooperation with the Cooperative Extension to support the establishment of a cost-share genetic improvement program to boost the profitability of local cattle producers through a controlled breeding effort that enhances the weight, physical frame and disposition of calves – all of which are significant factors in market sales pricing. Participants in the project will be eligible to receive 50% cost-share on artificial insemination that will improve their herd’s genetics and increase their incomes. Training for participants will be provided by Cooperative Extension. Golden LEAF funds will be used for 50% of the cost-share of artificial inseminations, education, and equipment as needed to support the project..
