The purpose of this Golden LEAF grant is to provide funding to WEI, a community rehabilitation program that provides jobs to disabled residents and others in Jackson, Swain and Macon Counties. The grant will allow WEI to purchase equipment necessary to secure manufacturing contracts in its primary manufacturing area of commercial sewing and medical kits. Through this expanded production, it will create 25 new jobs. Positions will pay in excess of $9.00 per hour plus benefits.
