Southwestern Community College (SCC) will use GLF funds to support a two-year project to prepare adult students for employment in healthcare occupations and connect students in grades 6-12 with career opportunities and training pathways in STEM-related fields that are in demand by employers in the region. The project, which is led by SCC, is a collaborative effort with Jackson, Macon, and Swain county schools. The partners seek to replicate the advanced manufacturing pathways model developed and successfully implemented between SCC and Swain County Schools. Funds will be used to equip a health simulation lab to expand career pathways into health science programs at SCC. The partners have engaged a broad base of businesses to assist with the development of the education to work pipeline, offer work-based learning experiences to students, and consider graduates for employment opportunities.
Any project more than a couple of years old may not reflect current Board priorities.
