The purpose of this grant is to provide funding to Mayland Community College (MCC) to equip the new Career and Technical Center set to be built on Mayland’s Yancey Campus. This facility will feature welding, HVAC, advanced machining and blacksmithing/decorative metal programs. The applicant states that these training programs will fill a critical shortage of skilled professionals in the manufacturing industry and align with entrepreneurial opportunities in the region for those with blacksmithing/decorative metal skills. Golden LEAF funds would be used for equipment and will leverage other funding that has been secured for the design, construction and equipping of the new facility.
