Organization:
City of Whiteville
Amount:
$150,000.00
Program Area:
Disaster Recovery Grant Program
County of Applicant:
Columbus
Year:
2017
Description:

Hurricane Matthew caused historic flooding in the City of Whiteville’s Downtown Municipal Service District and surrounding residential areas posing a threat to health and safety. Approximately 70 businesses and more than 200 residences are located in the affected area. This Golden LEAF grant will enable Whiteville to develop a stormwater plan for the Downtown Municipal Service District and necessary outfalls. The city will use the study to develop priorities for storm drainage improvements based upon the exposure of the public and property to flood hazards. Funding for future infrastructure upgrades identified by the plan will be sought from grant programs, appropriation of local funds or through the implementation of a stormwater fee.
