Description:

The purpose of this grant is to provide funding to the Edenton-Chowan Board of Education to create a sustainable STEM curriculum in grades 6-12 to provide students with a broader and deeper understanding of applied sciences and mathematics through hands-on exploratory STEM courses in the middle grades and more specialized STEM courses at the high school. The creation of this specialized STEM pathway will allow 11th and 12th grade students planning on pursuing a degree in a STEM-related field to have opportunities to apply theoretical concepts taught in traditional math and science courses. The project will also strengthen the pathways offered through the College of the Albemarle leading to certification in the areas of HVAC, Culinary, Electrical and Sustainable Technology. Golden LEAF funds will be used for classroom renovations, network upgrades, teacher training, curriculum materials, lab equipment and furniture.
