Sanitary Sewer Pump Station Replacement

Organization:
City of Elizabeth City
Amount:
$996,300.00
Program Area:
Disaster Recovery Grant Program
County of Applicant:
Pasquotank
Year:
2020
Description:

During Hurricane Dorian, pump stations were submerged due to inflow and infiltration of stormwater into the sanitary sewer system. As a result, the wastewater treatment plant experienced flows more than two times greater than capacity and exceeded capacity for several days after the storm had passed. Hurricane Matthew resulted in seven submerged pump stations and wastewater treatment plant flows nearly three times greater than capacity. Golden LEAF disaster recovery grant funds will be used for mitigation strategies at pump stations to remedy these issues. The work required will vary by each station but include adding standby power sources, adding stationary bypass pumps, elevating pumps to be above flood levels, and elevating electrical panel boxes to be above flood levels.
