Description:

This award provides funding to the County of Halifax for Project Big Rock, which is Roseburg Forest Products, a manufacturer of traditional wood products, specialty panels, and engineered products. The company is locating a new manufacturing facility at the ROVA site in Weldon in Halifax County. The project will create 137 new jobs paying average wages of $50,707, compared to the county average wage of $34,225. The company will also make a capital investment of $200 million. The ROVA site is a former power generation facility, and the company requires that the existing buildings be demolished before it takes control of the property. Halifax County plans for an existing 501(c)(3) economic development entity to purchase the site, demolish the buildings and relocate a sewer line, and sell the site to the company. The total cost of demolition is expected to be $500,000, and Golden LEAF funds will pay for a part of that cost.
