Description:

Organically produced food represents the largest growth sector in agriculture today with demand growing at an annual rate of 24%. In NC, demand by retailers far exceeds NC production. As a result, 85% of the organic produce sold to consumers in NC is imported from other states. Through this initiative, NCSU will demonstrate organic production principles and practices for a variety of important NC crops. GLF funds will be used to develop an organic cropping demonstration, education, and marketing initiative for farmers at the Organic Unit of the Center for Environmental Farming Systems in Goldsboro. High-quality educational programs will be offered to farmers and extension agents throughout the state.
