Hurricane Florence flooded Surf City’s Town Hall. The second floor of the building also suffered damage from water leaking through the roof and windows. Due to the severity of the damage, repair requires compliance with floodplain code, including elevating the building. The cost for elevation is significantly more than the building is worth; therefore, the town proposes to replace the building at a new inland location. The town has received donated land suitable for the new town hall. Golden LEAF Hurricane Florence Disaster Recovery grant funds will be used for engineering and design of the replacement town hall. FEMA Public Assistance and insurance funds will be used to complete the project.
