Wind, water and debris from Hurricane Matthew blocked the channel leading into the Wanchese Harbor on the northeast side of Roanoke Island. Immediate dredging was necessary to clear the channel to allow commercial fishing boats to return to normal operations. Golden LEAF disaster recovery grant funds will reimburse Dare County for the cost of emergency dredging of the channel.
