Description:

The purpose of this grant is to provide funding to Rutherford County for public infrastructure improvements to help locate Horsehead Corporation, a zinc recycling company, in the County. Golden LEAF funds would be used to build a bridge on a public right-of-way that would replace an existing overpass that is too narrow for the existing rail and a needed siding track that is to be added. The company also considered sites in Tennessee and Illinois. The project would result in the creation of 206 jobs-179 hourly positions averaging $36,000 annually and 27 salaried positions averaging $52,000 annually for a blended average of $38,097, plus benefits, compared to the county average of $28,392.
