Description:

This Golden LEAF grant will support the Northeast Regional School of Biotechnology and Agriscience (NERSBA). NERSBA is a regional STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) school based on the early college high school model and serves students from Beaufort, Martin, Pitt, Washington and Tyrrell counties. The mission of the school is to prepare students for entry into the workforce or higher education through a rigorous technology-enriched environment focusing on biotechnology and agriscience. Collaborators include the Vernon James Research and Extension Center, Tidewater Research Station, educational agencies and business partners. Funds will be used to support a Director of Technology who will coordinate and support the technology resources needed to provide online instruction for college classes. Funds will also be used to transport students to community college and NCSU facilities to complete lab requirements which NESBA does not have available on its campus.
