Description:

This award provides funding to the Town of Old Fort for the renovation of a building which the town will lease to McDowell Technical Community College (MTCC) for use as a satellite campus. MTCC will provide training to meet the need of business and industry for workers trained in manufacturing, construction, and trail design. MTCC expects 70 students will enroll in a National Center for Construction Education Research (NCCER) Core Curriculum course, 40 students will enroll in a trail development, maintenance, and sustainability course, and 50 NCCER students and 25 trail development students will successfully complete their coursework and earn a certificate or third-party credential. Golden LEAF funds will be used to renovate a 4,000 square foot building to house at least two classrooms, a computer lab, and up to three offices.
