The purpose of this grant is to assist the Wilson Youth United (dba The SPOT) with the expansion of their services to teenage youth ages 13-18. The organization’s programming is aimed at reducing academic failure, school suspension/expulsion/absenteeism, substance abuse and at providing structured activities that build positive peer relationships and effective role models. Programming is provided year-round after school and through the summers. The organization currently provides programming to elementary and middle school youth, and provides some services and programming to teenagers, but seeks to significantly expand that segment of their programming and provide programs and services for youth age 13-18. Golden LEAF funds would be used for staffing, training, youth forums, scholarships for program membership, transportation and supplies, equipment and marketing.
Any project more than a couple of years old may not reflect current Board priorities.
