The purpose of this grant is to provide funding to Surry County for the extension of sewer service to the Interstate Water & Sewer District (IWSD) in the northern portion of the county. The IWSD is located along NC89 between I-74 and I-77 and has been targeted by Surry County as a location for economic development and business growth. A number of local businesses need the sewer service to continue to operate and for future expansions and growth. The County also expects to see new growth and the attraction of new businesses once the infrastructure is in place.
