The purpose of this grant is to provide funding to Rockingham County Schools for its Mobile Learning Initiative, a 1:1 technology project, which will provide each high school student in the county a tablet/netbook or mobile learning device which will be coupled with teacher professional development to expand curriculum and instructional opportunities. The goals of the project include the improvement of student achievement, closure of the ‘digital equity’ gaps among students and teachers, and enhanced teaching and learning, as well as economic development. Golden LEAF funds would be used primarily for the purchase of 3,750 tablet/netbook mobile devices and would be leveraged by funding from other sources including Race to the Top and the Reidsville Area Foundation.
