Mineral Spring Park Streambank Stabilization

Organization:
Town of Fuquay-Varina
Amount:
$276,371.23
Program Area:
Disaster Recovery Grant Program
County of Applicant:
Wake
Year:
2018
Description:

Flooding during Hurricane Matthew put pressure on the existing streambank structure through Mineral Spring Park, which is adjacent to Spring Street and crosses U.S. 401 in downtown Fuquay-Varina. The streambank is sloughing and is in a failing state. The location of the streambank near two major roads and utilities increases public safety risk should the bank fail. The town proposes to remove unstable bank material and install gabion baskets to stabilize the streambank. Golden LEAF Hurricane Matthew Disaster Recovery grant funds will be used to support design/engineering and construction.
