Open Grants Program
County of Applicant:
Lincoln
Year:
2014
Description:

This grant will support the Lincoln County Schools’ “Manufacturing: A Future that Works” program, which builds the foundational skills to meet the needs of the Lincoln County labor. Nearly 22% of jobs in Lincoln County are manufacturing jobs and they pay, on average, nearly 1/3 more than the county average wage. Lincoln County Schools is implementing an introductory advanced manufacturing course of study at four middle schools, four high schools, and at the Lincoln County School of Technology (LCST), a school that offers courses in career and technical education to juniors and seniors and adult students in collaboration with Gaston College. The goal is to educate students about advanced manufacturing employment opportunities and prepare students for those jobs. The program will also develop internship and similar opportunities for students to obtain work experience. Golden LEAF funds will be used to purchase equipment for high schools and the LCST.
