LMAC Runway Rehabilitation

Organization:
Laurinburg-Maxton Airport Commission
Amount:
$200,000.00
Program Area:
Open Grants Program
County of Applicant:
Scotland
Year:
2011
Description:

The purpose of this Golden LEAF grant is to provide funding to the Laurinburg Maxton Airport Commission (LMAC) to resurface its 6,500 foot airport runway. The condition of the runway is such that it is a safety hazard and is jeopardizing the viability of businesses at the airport and preventing new businesses from locating at the airport and surrounding industrial park. The rebuilt runway is also necessary for plans to have the Laurinburg-Maxton Airport serve as a reliever airport for the increasingly busy Fayetteville Regional Airport and nearby military installations. LMAC has received over $4 million in support from the NC Department of Transportation but must provide a 10% match. LMAC has committed over $200,000 to the matching requirement and this grant will serve as the remainder of the match.
