Description:

This grant will provide funding to Surry Community College, which serves Yadkin County, to construct and equip Phase I of the new Industrial Training Center campus in Yadkin County. The Center will provide training in advanced manufacturing with degree, certificate and diploma programs. In Phase I, the Center will focus on mechatronics and machining. All courses will be customized to the needs of new, existing and/or expanding business and industry. The College has identified several businesses that have either recently announced expansions or that plan to expand in the near future that will need employees trained in the skills that would be taught at the Center. High school students will be able to attend classes at the Center and earn tuition-free college course credits toward a job credential, certificate, or diploma while attending high school.
