Hyde County Tram Replacement

Organization:
County of Hyde
Amount:
$125,000.00
Program Area:
Disaster Recovery Grant Program
County of Applicant:
Hyde
Year:
2020
Description:

Trams operated by Hyde County to serve users of the new passenger ferry were damaged by floodwaters during Hurricane Dorian. Flooding also washed away gravel at the tram stops and caused damage to the door of the garage where trams are stored. Costs to repair the damage nearly exceed the cost to replace the trams. The County obtained all insurance available for the trams and required by the terms of the lease. Because the trams are classified as golf carts for insurance purposes, flood insurance is not available. In the future, the trams will be removed from the island during evacuations. Golden LEAF disaster recovery grant funds will be used to replace the trams, replace gravel at tram stops, and repair the door to the garage where the trams are stored.
