Hurricane Florence blew over and uprooted trees growing on a town-owned earthen dam, compromising the dam. Elizabethtown began stabilization and tree removal immediately following the storm. The lake associated with this dam is within the Elizabethtown Airport Industrial Park. The dam also protects a road. Work has now been completed but the FEMA process is underway and no FEMA funds have been released. Golden LEAF disaster recovery grant funds will reimburse the town for dam repair and stabilization costs to assist the town with its cash flow needs. Golden LEAF Hurricane Florence Disaster Recovery Grant Program funds will be repaid from the FEMA Public Assistance award for the project once those funds are received.
