Description:

This contract provides funding to the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) for continued support of the Golden LEAF Scholarship Program – Two-Year Colleges (the “Program”). The program assists students and their families with the costs associated with curriculum and continuing education programs at community colleges. Eligible students must reside in a rural county that is economically distressed or tobacco dependent and must demonstrate financial need. Golden LEAF dollars will pay for up to $50,000 for administrative costs and $1,700,000 for scholarships to support awards of up to $2,250 annually for curriculum students and up to $1,850 annually for workforce continuing education students. The funds will serve students enrolled in fall, spring, and summer semesters of the 2021-2022 year. Scholarship funds can be used to cover the cost of attendance which includes tuition, fees, books, supplies, credentialing tests, transportation, and childcare. NCCCS will monitor the program to ensure funds are used for permissible purposes and to provide updates regarding outcomes of the program. System office staff will work with colleges and with Golden LEAF to market the scholarship and promote student success stories.
