The purpose of this grant is to provide funding to the North Carolina Community College System for continued support of the Golden LEAF Scholars-Two-Year Colleges program (the “Program”). Eligible students must reside in a rural North Carolina county that is designated Tier 1 or Tier 2 under the North Carolina Department of Commerce three tier system, or that is tobacco dependent, and must demonstrate need under the Federal TRIO Programs (TRIO) formula. The grant will provide scholarships to curriculum and continuing education students to help cover the cost of tuition, fees, books, supplies, credentialing tests, transportation and childcare for the 2014-2015 fall, spring, and summer semesters. Scholarship amounts available are up to $750 for curriculum students and up to $250 for continuing education students. Participating community colleges opt into the Program. Colleges whose main campus is located in a rural county designated Tier I or II or tobacco dependent receive priority scholarship funding. At least 25% of program funds must be awarded to eligible continuing education students. Continuing education students must be enrolled in a career pathways program or a course that is scheduled for at least 96 hours and leads to a state and/or national credential.
Any project more than a couple of years old may not reflect current Board priorities.
