Description:

The purpose of this grant is to provide funding to the North Carolina Community College System for continued support for the Golden LEAF Scholars-Two-Year Colleges program. Eligible students must reside in a rural North Carolina county this is designated Tier 1 or Tier 2 under the North Carolina Department of Commerce three tier system or that is tobacco dependent, and must demonstrate need under the federal TRIO formula. The grant will provide scholarships to curriculum and continuing education students to help cover the cost of tuition, fees, books, supplies, credentialing tests, transportation and childcare for the fall, spring and summer semesters. Scholarship amounts are up to $750 for curriculum students and up to $250 for continuing education students. Participating community colleges opt in to the scholarship program. Colleges whose main campus is located in a rural county that is designated Tier I or II or tobacco dependent receive priority scholarship funding. At least 25% of program funds must be awarded to eligible continuing education students. Students must demonstrate need under the federal TRIO formula. Continuing education students must be enrolled in a career pathways program or a course that is scheduled for at least 96 hours and leads to a state and/or national credential.
