This grant provides continued support to the Center for Creative Leadership for the Golden LEAF Scholars Leadership Program. The goal of the program is to develop leadership skills and expose recipients of Golden LEAF Scholarships to professional opportunities in rural counties with the hope that some of them will choose to return to or otherwise become engaged with issues affecting rural North Carolina after graduation. Students receive leadership training and coaching throughout the year. During the summer, students in their freshman, sophomore, and junior years secure and complete a paid internship in a rural, economically distressed community. This year, CCL will recruit 120 freshmen participants from the pool of 215 new Golden LEAF scholars and expects to serve approximately 245 current participants for a total of 365 students served.
