The purpose of this grant is to provide continuing funding to the Center for Creative Leadership for the Golden LEAF Scholars Leadership Program. Golden LEAF Scholarship recipients who participate in the program attend a leadership development conference in January and a closing conference in September 2015. Freshmen and sophomores receive support from trained coaches and juniors and seniors focus on preparing for their careers after college. Participants also engage in paid summer internships aligned with their career interests in a rural county that is economically distressed or tobacco dependent. Golden LEAF funds pay for the students’ internships. The goals of the program include developing the leadership skills of the students and exposing them to professional opportunities in rural and economically distressed North Carolina communities in the hope that they will make positive contributions to those communities, and that some will return to rural areas of the state to live and work after graduation.
Any project more than a couple of years old may not reflect current Board priorities.
