Expanding Local Food Marketing with Social Media Tools

Organization:
Carolina Farm Stewardship Association
Amount:
$40,000.00
Program Area:
Open Grants Program
County of Applicant:
Chatham
Year:
2011
Description:

The purpose of this Golden LEAF grant is to support Carolina Farm Stewardship Association as it provides eight seminars to train farmers in the use of social media such as Facebook and Twitter to market farm products. By using these electronic media resources, farmers will be able to connect directly with buyers. Recent experience shows that several farms that have employed similar on-line marketing strategies have seen sales increase dramatically. There has been strong interest in this topic at conferences offered by CFSA and others. These seminars will provide extensive training and continuing assistance for participants after the sessions. Farmers’ on-line media will also be connected to the CFSA local food guide, increasing the utility of that resource.
