The purpose of this grant is to help Pitt Community College expand the capacity of its health science programs in order to address the growth in healthcare careers, the shortfall of nurses in North Carolina, and the lack of capacity for nurse training in the region. The health care programs at PCC train students from tobacco dependent, economically distressed, rural counties in eastern North Carolina, including Pitt, Edgecombe, Bertie, Chowan, Duplin, and Hertford. This expansion will result in an increase of 40 nurse and 10 allied health graduates annually. It will also allow development of more than 500 jobs per year over a five-year period through continuing education, retraining and recertification opportunities.
Any project more than a couple of years old may not reflect current Board priorities.
