Program Area:

Disaster Recovery Grant Program

Description:

The grant provided funding to the City of Kinston for substantial flooding on Doctors Drive due to Hurricane Matthew, which resulted in evacuations and damage to residential properties. Doctors Drive was a dead-end street and flooded during Hurricane Matthew, making it impassable. A private developer constructed a new apartment complex at the end of Doctors Drive, which was outside of the 100-year floodplain. New and existing residences and commercial units in the area benefited from the project. Golden LEAF Disaster Recovery Grant Program funds were used to support the extension of Doctors Drive to connect with Airport Road and extend a water line to address fire protection and water supply needs, allowing for the construction of the new housing development.
