The purpose of this grant is to pursue diabetes and obesity health care and research through the Metabolic Institute founded by the UNC Board of Governors. The proposed center will foster economic development in rural eastern North Carolina through the creation of new service industries and jobs targeting obesity and diabetic health care opportunities in a region with high mortality rates from diabetes and infectious diseases.
