Developing Agricultural Education in Western North Carolina

Brevard College
Program Area:
Open Grants Program
County of Applicant:

This grant provides funding to Brevard College to develop a program to train agricultural education teachers and produce graduates versed in agricultural production in western North Carolina. Few programs in the state train agricultural education teachers, and there is no program in the west, yet the need for agricultural education teachers is significant. In 2016, there are expected to be over 60 open positions in North Carolina. Golden LEAF funds will be used to hire a full-time faculty member trained in agricultural education and to purchase a greenhouse and supplies for training students in agricultural practices.
