Completing Airport Industrial Park II (Firing Range Removal and Clean-up)

Organization:
Edenton Chowan Partnership
Amount:
$25,850.00
Program Area:
Community Assistance Initiative
County of Applicant:
Chowan
Year:
2013
Description:

The purpose of this grant is to provide funding to the Edenton Chowan Partnership in support of the second industrial park associated with the airport that the region has implemented. The park has already been improved with the construction of an access road, water and sewer, and required storm water runoff ponds. This project supports the needed cleanup of an outdoor shooting range in the center of the park that dates back to WWII when the Navy/Marine Corps Air Station Edenton was operational on this site. Since the mid-1960s, the range has been used as a training site for local law enforcement. Golden LEAF funds will be used to hire a specialized firm to assess and remove the existing firing range located in the middle of the industrial park and the toxic waste associated with the site.
