Description:

The purpose of this grant is to provide funding to support Teach for America’s efforts to eliminate educational inequity in northeastern North Carolina. Teach for America will bring 125 new corps members to northeastern North Carolina. Of these, approximately 100 will be placed in Tier 1, economically distressed counties. Teach for America expects 91% of the first-year corps members and 99 % of second year corps members to achieve ambitious benchmarks set for student achievement. In addition, 21 members of the Teach for America alumni base will work as principals or assistant principals in the region in 2012-2013 and 40% of the 2010 corps members are expected to return for a third year of teaching.
