Description:

The purpose of this grant is to provide funding to Central Carolina Community College to encourage students to pursue high school dual enrollment programs — a well-documented predictor of post-secondary educational achievement. CCCC will do this by placing an advisor in each of the high schools in Chatham, Harnett, and Lee Counties. The program will equip more members of the tri-county workforce with career- and skills-enhancing certificates, diplomas, and degrees. Advisors will work with students, parents, faculty, and administrators to encourage enrollment in CCCC coursework. CCCC expects 15% of juniors and seniors in area high schools to enroll in CCCC coursework, an increase of 300% above current participation rates. Approximately 75% of those participating in the courses are expected to pursue Career and Technical Education courses. Golden LEAF funds will be used for personnel, and is expected to be complemented by over $800,000 in funding from other sources, including local businesses.
