The purpose of this grant is to provide funding to WRMC Hospital Operating Corporation in Wilkes County to support efforts to enhance the Wilkes Regional Medical Center’s emergency and surgical services and create a heart center. The emergency department currently operates at more than twice the intended capacity of 15,000 patient visits per year. Golden LEAF funds will be used for equipment for the heart center and applied to construction costs.
