Description:

The NC Christmas tree industry and the NC ornamental industry are being seriously threatened by two closely-related exotic insect pests. These insects are causing damage and death to the Fraser fir, the mainstay of the Christmas tree industry, and hemlock, an important tree to the ornamental industry. This Golden LEAF grant will support efforts to develop trees that are resistant to these insects.
