Description:

The purpose of this Golden LEAF grant is to enhance existing training capacities in the Aviation Systems Technology Program at Wayne Community College. The college has the oldest FAA certified Air Frame and Power Plant (A&P) program in the state. Improvements will support skills development that are in-demand by advanced manufacturing industries including assembly, welding, hydraulics, pneumatics, sheet metal fabrication and repair, and micrometer measurement. Funds are to be used for equipment purchases necessary to bring this program into compliance with industry practices and current technology used in aircraft manufacturing and maintenance, repair and overhaul industries. These additional training capacities will allow the college to increase student through-put. In addition to adding new technology enhancements, the college will also incorporate project based learning into the curriculum, include skills training in leadership, critical thinking and problem solving through the Career Readiness Certificate, and provide continuing education options in addition to the curriculum program
