Description:

The purpose of this grant is to provide support to Tyrrell County Schools for the creation of an Agricultural Mechanics and Horticulture Program at Columbia High/Early College High School which will equip students with skills in research, marketing, welding, mechanics, horticulture, landscape design, sod/turf grass cultivation, small engine repair, etc. Currently, there is no Agriculture Education program to train students although agricultural industries are major employers in Tyrrell County and have expressed a need for more workers. An Agricultural Mechanics and Horticulture CTE Program, expanded to include college courses offered to both high school and community members, will provide needed workforce development opportunities to Tyrrell citizens.
