Description:

The purpose of this Golden LEAF grant is to provide funding to Ashe County Job Development, Inc. (ACJD), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, to make improvements to a 1960s manufacturing building ACJD owns. The improvements will encourage Gates Corporation to continue to manufacture hydraulic hose assemblies in the building. Gates Corporation moved to the building on a temporary, emergency basis thirty-six hours after its facility in Virginia was destroyed by a tornado in April and is determining where it will permanently locate this hydraulic hose production. Gates has hired over 50 North Carolina residents to work in the plant and expects to hire as many as 100.
