The Golden LEAF Foundation is committed to serving tobacco-dependent, economically distressed and rural North Carolina and has two upcoming grant deadlines to assist job creation and workforce training for identified job opportunities: Economic Catalyst – April 15th and Golden LEAF Opportunities for Work (GLOW) – April 30th. NC foundation targets training for jobs open now Fayetteville Observer Golden LEAF has earmarked $3.5 million for an initiative to retrain workers. The initiative is targeting non-profits that develop short-term programs giving workers new skills for identified and available job opportunities.
Dalton To Announce State Help For Small Biz NBC17 Lt. Gov. Walter Dalton will host a press conference at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday to announce new state assistance for small businesses, along with legislative leaders from the House and the Senate as well as partner organizations, including Golden LEAF. The conference will be held in the Legislative Building, 16 W. Jones Street in Raleigh, NC.
Laptop Initiative Energizes Edgecombe Schools NC Magazine The Golden LEAF Foundation provided laptops to all Edgecombe County Public High School students. Part of a pilot program, called the NC 1:1 Laptop Initiative, Golden LEAF and public and private partners are giving rural students the tools to become a highly skilled workforce.

Haw River Valley Recognized as Third AVA in North Carolina NC Department of Commerce website The wineries of the Haw River Valley have recently been recognized by the federal government as a distinctive grape growing and wine producing area, thanks to funding from a Golden LEAF grant.
Wilkes to get $2 million from Golden Leaf Wilkes Journal Patriot Golden LEAF’s Board of Directors Marketing and Communications Chairman Michael Almond and Senior Vice President Mark Sorrells announced at a Wilkes EDC retreat that the Foundation will be implementing the Community Assistance Initiative in Wilkes County.

Construction Continues On Future Food Center For Farmers MyNC.com
Officials will give an update Thursday on construction of a shared-use facility that will allow farmers to better sells their goods in the Piedmont region. Congressman David Price and representatives of the Golden Leaf Foundation and other partners will celebrate the progress of the Piedmont Food and Agriculture Processing Center Thursday.

The Foundation created to help North Carolina communities that have suffered the most due to the decline of the tobacco industry is increasing its grantsmaking budget and opportunities to apply for grants. Rep. Van Braxton, D-Lenoir, and Rep. Efton Sager, R-Wayne, are in support of these efforts and against the legislature taking Golden LEAF funds for the state budget.
Golden LEAF has $2 million for Vance County The Daily Dispatch Vance County residents met with Golden LEAF officials to learn about the Foundation’s Community Assistance Initiative. Already 11 Tier 1 counties have received 40 grants totaling over $20 million in funding under the program.

Wilson County will begin the Community Assistance Initiative, a $2 million non-competitive grantsmaking process, towards the end of the year.
